Apple announced yesterday the release date for the newest installment of Mac OS X (10.6): Snow Leopard, and it is for this Friday. Apple is always quick to release the operating systems, surprising consumers and giving little reason for them to slow down their shopping for new hardware.
This OS upgrade will only cost $29 for a single users license, and $49 for a family pack. This is an incredible price for any OS. But there is a catch or two! One, Snow Leopard is only an upgrade for Leopard (Mac OS 10.5), so you need make certain you already have leopard, if you happen to be still running Tiger, than you are looking at $160 upgrade (Leopard is $130). The other catch is that Snow Leopard is only available for Intel based machines. This is where Apple is making the cut for all PowerPC Macs. So if you are not running Leopard, or using a PowerPC, you may not be as excited as others are for this release.
