A Sweet “Cupcake” For G1 Owners.

For the few, uh hem, or millions of G1 owners out there who are waiting for the so called “cupcake” you will be waiting even longer now for the up and coming cupcake update. Don’t know what cupcake is? Well here is a little explanation of what it will do you for you.

Starting this week google is releasing an update 1.1 for the Android software to fix some of the bugs it has a T-Mobile rep said they should have it out to all customers by the 15th of this month but its still no cupcake. Marissa Mayer who works for the android dev team is supposedly obsessed with cupcakes and that has a part in the name of it, but that of coarse is only speculation, what isn’t speculation is what it should do. Copy/paste function will be enabled, video recorder for the camera, stereo-bluetooth, on screen input methods, an on screen keyboard so you wont always have to slide it open, improved browsing function, and other bug fixes people have complained about. Now the cupcake update may offer more for users but as of right now this is what we know about, the things we know it wont fix are, multi touch ability i.e., pinch zoom like on an iPhone, accelerometer feature to make phone go into landscape mode when keyboard is not open, and no headphone jack, but that of coarse is poor hardware design. The software update sounds great and if they are releasing this software soon I think it shows that google is serious about getting an open source phone OS, if they continue to make their users wait I think it shows lack on their part of getting what their users need, and proficiency in making software. So is google really serious about taking on the phone market, well we will have to wait a little longer to see.
For those of you who can’t wait until they release this cupcake I am providing a link so you can unlock your phone and instal the cupcake your self. Good luck, and if any of you have had success in doing this let us know and how you did it.

Check out here for instructions and software to do the update.
