A Boring Update

In exactly one week from today all you iPhone and iPod touch users will be able to take advantage of the new 3.0 update (free for iphone, 9.95 for ipod 1st and 2nd Gen.) I know everyone is very excited but I am going to ruin the thunder. If you have a first Gen. iphone the only features you will have are the landscape keyboards in all apps, and copy/paste that really about it. For the current 3G models you get that and MMS support (which AT&T are not even going to be ready for until end of summer), and thats pretty much it. You will be excited for about a day or two then realize Apple should have had all these features all along and have pretty much screwed everybody. The new phone will have, video recording, voice command, and google maps will orient in the direction you are driving. Now Apple may try and say that these features are not backwards compatible but that is completely bull crap! All of these features except the compass are software specific not hardware. If you jailbreak your phone you can get a video recording app that gives you up to 30 fps, xGPS already gives you voice turn by turn directions and self orients in whatever way you are traveling so you don’t need a compass for it to work, and there is software that enables voice command on the 3G I know this because I have used them all. I use Goog411 almost every day on my phone and it is all voice command, so that proves that you don’t need specific hardware for it to run, it is a simple case of Apple screwing their customers. So I take this opportunity to say, SHAME ON YOU APPLE, SHAME ON YOU FOR TREATING YOUR CUSTOMERS LIKE CRAP! And I mean that in all sincerity, what about all the people who bought iphones just a month or two ago? YOu are phasing out support for them? When blackberry does updates they even put updates in their old phones, maybe that is one reason why they are the best selling phone. I can understand phasing out support of the 1st Gen. iphone because it is two years old, which is how long we should get updates since our contracts are for two years not one. Now the iphone is one of the greatest phones in the world and even if you hate it you cannot doubt that and say its a crappy phone, no phone in the world compares to it, not even the android there both in a different class, and I still love my Mac and will never go PC, but I will say that when the time comes to renew my contract and get a new phone it will for sure not be the iphone, I’m not into having a phone that is only good for a year. Thats my rant take it for what it’s worth and if it makes you mad feel free to rail back, and have fun with a software update that has technology that is about ten years old real inventive Apple!
