The beta version 2 of 3.0 has been out for a few days now so I figured it is time to put up a review. There is really no new features they have added mainly bug fixes, so here we go. Everything is still really slow, when you try to switch to landscape mode it takes a few seconds sometimes up to 7 seconds to switch, it is so slow I think I will be downgrading back to 2.2.1, although it is really fun testing this out. MMS still doesn’t really work, I was able to send a picture to my wife’s phone once and have tried sending MMS to other phones on other carriers and it doesn’t work, now I cant even MMS an AT&T phone. The ability to turn preview mode off on texts (this is so it doesn’t display the message on the name) works now and I love that, I have always hated that it shows the entire text when it arrives then you have to open it one more time so it doesn’t show it as new, plus I don’t want people to be able to see my texts, even if they aren’t private! The landscape mode texting is not as great as I thought it to be, I make more mistakes typing that way than in portrait mode, but that may be because I am not use to it, but it really sucks. Sometimes texts wont send, and I get a lot more dropped phone calls. I don’t know if it’s AT&T or the iphone but I get more dropped calls in one day than I did in two years with T-Mobile, its pretty bad. Auto correct is not working well, it changed podcast to pod on and would not auto correct you to you. All of the apps crash a lot and I usually have to restart my phone at least once a day, sounds fun right? I have had some problems with the ipod, sometimes songs will start skipping really bad and I have to restart the phone to get them to play normal. When you answer a call in the middle of a song after you hang up it no longer starts to play automatically, I really hope they fix that. Things freeze up a lot, and apps sometimes take a very long time to load. I have also noticed the maps don’t work very well. It has a harder time finding the GPS signal and sometimes it said I was in a completely different area than I really was in, I don’t know if this is the GPS because I tested this in areas I have never had a problem with.
Now you may be scared by now but don’t be, beta software always has problems. When 2.2.1 came out I think they had nine different beta versions before the final release. The official release will be great and mostly free of bugs and problems, plus they still have not yet added all the features that it will have when it comes out. i think everyone will really like it and enjoy the new design and features. Here is a rundown of the good things; note syncing, built in voice recorder, landscape mode, search ability, ability to encrypt backups, MMS, better playback in ipod, login to youtube account, in-app purchases, bluetooth stereo and tethering, and more options to customize and treat the phone like you actually own it. Really the only let down for me has been peoples reactions, these updates are such old technology that people without iphones really could care less, and people that do have them, once they see the new features are just kind of ehhh, I thought iPhones would have more excited reactions. If you have any other questions about bugs, or features in the new OS post a comment and I will get back on it.
A side note this is a new button they have in the settings menu, I have no idea what it will be for?
