Speed Up Your Browser

7-12-07-fast_internetRecently both Firefox and my Safari browsers were feeling a little sluggish and running a little slow, needless to say it was frustrating me, so I found a little trick to clean them up and speed them up a little.  First I must say, I have left Internet Explorer off this list on purpose not only because I run a mac but it is a terrible browser; if you are still using it you need to stop today and get Firefox or Safari, they are available for PC and Mac.

If you are in Firefox go to the menu bar at top and select Tools then go down and select clear private data. Check the boxes for cache and cookies, you may also select the history box if you want that cleared then select clear private data now.

For Safari click on safari in the top menu, then click empty cache, after the alert pops up select empty.  Now click on safari again, and select preferences, select bookmarks (security if you are running Safari 4) select show cookies, then you can either click on remove all or select individual ones you would like removed, I would just choose to remove all.

How does this speed up your browser?  Cookies and cache are basically files that hold information about different websites you visit so when you go back to them it can load things from that page a little faster.  The problem is that when you get a lot of them building up it takes longer to find and access them, I would recommend doing this every couple of weeks or about once a month.  If you have any other tips or tricks to speed up or improve your browser let us know below.

Did you figure this out when you needed to clean your cache out of “unwanted” files and history? :)
